Kenadee's 4-H Pig

On the 12th-15th of August Kenadee had her pig at the Madison County Fair. She had to have it washed and ready to go on Wednesday so that it could be there before 6:00pm. This picture is of her washing him at home so that she could take him over that night.
I took this picture Thursday morning. Thursday morning she had to be there for the showing of the pig. They had to be in white shirts to show them before the judge. The judging that morning was for a couple of different things. The first was for showmanship. Which is basically how well they can lead the pig around the arena and keep control of the pig. That was a challenge. They separate them by if this is there first year or there 5th year. So that was nice. Kenadee's pig just wanted to put his head in the dirt and root once she would get him out of the dirt she could lead him pretty good until he got back to the fence. The second time they had to show the pig it was for quality. And that can all depend on what the judge might like better for the pig so it is kinda a guessing game on what to buy in the spring.

This is Kenadee leading Pepper around the arena. I might be a little bias but she was the prettiest one out there. I am so proud of her she did a great job. You can't see everyone else but there is about 10 other kids and there pigs in the arena at the same time. So if you can imagine trying to control your pig with 10 other pigs in there to that is really hard.

Saturday was when all the kids that brought animal were able to sale at the auction. So this is her selling her pig.
If you have ever been to an auction the auctioneer is kinda hard to understand because he is saying it so fast. At first the bidding began at $300.00 and i thought that she would maybe only get $400.00 because that is what most of them went for. Well next thing i knew the bidding was up to $700.00 It went up really fast so i started paying more attention to who was doing the bidding. Richard Larsen, Ray Barney(who was bidding for Grandma Robinson) and my DAD. The bidding ended at $925.00. By the time it was all said and done my Dad was the proud owner of Kenadee's Pig. I was so SHOCKED. I just sat there and cried and gave my dad the biggest hug. All i can say is WOW.

My dad left right after that and so i wasn't able to get a picture of him with Kenadee and her pig. My mom was there and so i made sure that at least on of the them was there to get the picture since she is also one of the proud owners of a fabulous pig. Kenadee had a great time doing 4-H and she is excited to do it again next year. I think that it was a great learning experience for her and us. It was fun but a lot of work to run in everyday twice a day to feed the pig and make sure he ha water. We are looking forward to it next year.

We are so pleased with how well you did and how much money you can put in your college fund. And, maybe a little relieved that Grandpa Beddes is so generous:).

It was fun to see Kenadee with her pig on Saturday. She looked as proud as could be as she brushed Pepper. Way to go Kenadee!
